In the early stages of oesophageal cancer disease, there are usually no symptoms. Later on, symptoms can include difficulty swallowing food; there may be pain or food may feel like it's sticking in your throat. You may lose weight, feel pain between the shoulder blades, behind the breastbone or back, have pain in your throat, experience indigestion, vomiting, hoarse voice or constant coughing-sometimes coughing up blood. These symptoms aren't always due to oesophageal cancer, but if you have them you should visit your doctor.
