The transmission of viral conjunctivitis is mostly through direct contact with an infected person or items that have come in contact with eye discharges from the person. However, a lot of the conditions may result from infection from other sources, eg sexual route(like HIV).Vertical transmission from mother to child during delivery is a significant cause of viral forms of neonatal conjunctivitis.
