The symptoms of cutaneous leishmaniasis are skin sores which erupt wks or mths after being bitten by sandflies. Visceral leishmaniasis symptoms, which can appear mths or even yrs after infection, include fever, weight loss, damage to the spleen and liver, and anaemia. Leishmaniasis is considered one of the main causes of a markedly enlarged spleen(so you can feel it under the skin); the spleen, which is not normally felt during examination of the abdomen, may become larger even than the liver in severe cases.
