Cancerous tumors can grow through your thyroid gland and sometimes spread to other parts of your body (through your bloodstream or the lymph system) where they may grow and form secondary tumors. This spread of cancer is called metastasis. Benign tumors aren't cancerous and don't spread to other areas of the body.
