Osteomalacia is a condition in which adult bones go soft because of a shortage of vitamin D or because the body struggles to break down and use it. The total result is poor mineral deposition and weakening of the adult bone. In osteomalacia, you have a normal amount of collagen, which gives the bones its structure, but lack the proper amount of calcium. Discuss with your doctor if you have symptoms of osteomalacia, or if you think that you may be at risk.
