Neonatal tetanus affects newborn babies and can be life-threatening. The symptoms are the same as generalized tetanus and occur within a week after birth. You may notice that your baby doesn't feed well, is stiff or rigid or has spasms. This is common if there is poor umbilical cord stump care either during delivery or after.
