Yellow fever is transmitted by bites from infected mosquitoes in humans and monkeys. The infection is spread by certain species of biting mosquitoes including Aedes, Sabethes and Haemogogus mosquitoes (South America only). The virus can only be spread in countries where these mosquitoes live. There are 3 main ways in which the virus is transmitted: jungle, intermediate and urban.
