Secondary infections may complicate ascorbic acid deficiency especially in children, e. g. wounds heal poorly and tear easily. You may have spontaneous bleeding, especially as areas of redness in the skin of the lower limbs or as conjunctival bleeding in the eye. Other complications include weakness of the legs due to bleeding into femoral sheaths covering the femoral nerve. Your legs can get swollen and painful with bleeding within joints.
