To prevent conjuctivitis, you need to practice good personal hygiene, eg regular hand washing, avoid contact with infected people and treat underlying infections, eg herpes simplex infection. If you have viral conjunctivitis, you should keep away from others for at least 2wks or as long as the eyes are red and weeping.
