Treatment of whooping cough includes taking antibiotics to help prevent the infection spreading to other people. However, even when treated with antibiotics, whooping cough usually still lasts for 6 to 8 weeks. The sooner you are given antibiotics after catching whooping cough, the more effective they will be in fighting the infection and reducing symptoms.
