In most countries, there is an immunization programme in place to prevent tetanus. You need 5 separate injections to be fully protected. The first 2 doses are usually given to babies when they are 2, 3 and 4 months old. The tetanus vaccine is combined with the diphtheria, pertussis and polio vaccines. Children receive a booster when they are about 3 and another one around 10 years later.
