Most people with sarcoidosis don't need treatment. Any treatment will depend on the severity of the symptoms, how the part of your body is affected and whether any of your vital organs, e. g heart and lungs, are affected. If you have acute sarcoidosis, your doctor may advise painkillers, e. g ibuprofen and paracetamol. If you have severe joint pain, fever or rash on your skin, your doctor may prescribe a short course (2-3 weeks) of a corticosteroid (prednisolone). Chronic sarcoidosis is usually treated with prednisolone. You'll need a moderate-high dose for 6-8 weeks, which will be then gradually reduced until your treatment ends. Treatment will last 6 months-2 years, depending on how your body responds. If your symptoms don't improve, your doctor may prescribe other immunosuppressants.
