Progesterone is a natural hormone in women that, among other things, helps regulate the menstrual cycle and pregnancy. Progesterone can also affect the growth of cancer cells. You may be given progesterone to help slow the growth of womb cancer that has returned after other types of treatment, or cancer that has spread to other parts of your body.
