Amoebiasis is a disease caused by a parasite called Entamoeba histolytica that infects the intestines causing diarrhoea. You may get infected if you eat food or drink water contaminated by the bacteria. It is more common in places with poor sanitation. The incubation period may last from days to weeks before symptoms appear.
