Fibroids are growths enclosed in capsules attached to the wall of the uterus (womb). They are non-cancerous growths of the uterus. They are also known as uterine myomas or leiomyomas, and they don't spread to other parts of your body. Fibroids are very common but most women don't ever get any symptoms. You may have only one fibroid or you may have many fibroids of different sizes. Fibroids range from being too small to be seen with the naked eye to around the size of a football.
