Severe hypotension is when low blood pressure leads to shock, a life-threatening condition where the brain, kidneys and other vital organs don't get enough blood to work properly. Blood pressure causing shock is lower than in other types of hypotension. Many factors can cause shock, eg major blood loss, severe infections, severe burns, allergic reactions and poisoning. Shock can be fatal if not treated immediately.
