Snoring is sound made in the upper airway of the throat while asleep. When you are asleep your mouth muscles, tongue and throat relax. If they relax too much they narrow or block the airway making the tissues of the throat vibrate as you breathe and causing a sound that comes through the nose, mouth or both. Loud snoring can make it hard for you and your partner to get good sleep. In some cases, snoring may be a sign of a serious medical problem like obstructive sleep apnoea.
