Usually, testicles descend from the baby's abdomen into the scrotum. A sac accompanies each testicle, letting fluid surround the testicles. Normally the sac closes and the fluid around the testicles is absorbed. With non-communicating hydrocele, the fluid stays around the testicles and is not absorbed. With communicating hydrocele, the fluid flows back and forth between the scrotum and abdominal cavity. With hydrocele of the cord, the fluid is located between the scrotum and the abdomen.
