A pathogen or infectious agent commonly known as a germ. This is a biological agent that causes disease or illness to its host. There are several ways whereby pathogens can invade a host. Pathogens usually include: bacteria, viruses e. g. influenza, HIV and fungal e. g. yeast. Food safety, hygiene and water treatment reduce the threat from some pathogens.
