Back pain is pain or discomfort felt in the upper, middle or lower back due to a problem with the bone, ligaments, joints, muscles or nerves of the back. Pain can range from a dull, constant ache to a sudden, sharp pain. Lower back pain is the most common because the lower back is under the most pressure on a daily basis. Acute back pain lasts for a few days to a few weeks. Chronic back pain lasts for 3 months or longer.
