Kwashiorkor can be prevented and treated by feeding your child a proper diet. It is very important that babies and young children have foods that build the body like milk, eggs, ground nuts and fish. If you are able, breastfeed your child for at least 2 years if you are not HIV infected. Avoid giving children food that has been spoiled through poor storage. Speak to a qualified health worker for more advice on how to prevent kwashiorkor disease.
