A man's sperm contains sex chromosomes that are either X (required for a baby girl) or Y (required for a baby boy). If the sperm with a Y chromosome fertilizes the egg, the baby will be a boy. If a sperm with an X chromosome fertilizes the egg, the baby will be a girl. Every parent has equal chances of producing either a boy or a girl.
