An Rh-negative pregnant woman and a Rh-positive father may conceive an Rh positive baby who is at risk of having a potentially dangerous form of anemia called Rh disease. This is caused by the mother's body destroying the unborn baby's(fetus) red blood cells, which can lead to fetal and newborn death or stillbirth. In the newborn, Rh disease can result in jaundice(yellowing of the skin and eyes), anemia, brain damage, heart failure and death.
