Jiggers are fleas that dig into the skin to lay their eggs. They cause discomfort, itching and inflammation, but are not dangerous themselves. The real danger is infection in and around the jigger, eg septic ulcers, tetanus and gangrene. Jiggers mostly occur on the feet and hands, but can reach any part of the body.
