First your doctor will treat you for urinary tract infection (antibiotics) or any other underlying cause. The fistula is then closed surgically. For a small fistula, a catheter is to be placed for 4 weeks which may result in spontaneous closure. Large ones and those which fail to close after a time can be repaired surgically.
