Endometritis is an inflammation of the lining of the uterus(the endometrium). Its caused by infections such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea, tuberculosis or mixtures of vaginal bacteria. Its likely to occur after a miscarriage or childbirth especially after a long labor or c-section. Medical procedures that involve entering the uterus through the cervix like inserting a coil(IUD) increases the risk of endometritis. It can occur with pelvic infections(salpingitis, cervicitis) and sexually transmitted diseases.
