Females have 2 ovaries that contain thousands of eggs (ova).Estrogen tells an ovary to release an egg every month. The ovaries take turns releasing eggs-the left ovary one month, the right ovary the next. At the same time, the soft lining(endometrium) of the uterus (the place where a baby can grow) starts to thicken.
