Left untreated, ectropion can lead to damage to the cornea(clear dome-shaped window covering the front of the eye), which may eventually lead to ulcers. The exposure also makes infections more likely. Corneal ulcers are particularly important as they are a threat to your eye sight and may lead to blindness.
