The attempt to identify individuals with prostate cancer in a large segment of a population. It involves 2 tests. one is inserting a lubricated gloved finger into the rectum to feel the gland (digital rectum examination- DRE) and the second measures a protein in blood called the prostate specific antigen (PSA).
