A method that uses man-made hormones to increase the levels of hormones that the body produces: oestrogen and progestin. The oestrogen hormone prevents the ovaries from producing an egg while progestin prevents fertilization of an egg by creating mucous around the uterus thus making it too sticky for the sperm to swim to the ovary and fertilize it.
