Vocal cord paralysis occurs when the nerve messages to your voice box(larynx) are blocked-the muscle of the vocal cords is paralysed. This affects your speaking and even breathing because your vocal cords do more than make sound. They also protect your airway by stopping food and even saliva from entering your windpipe and causing you to choke.
