The biggest risk factor for senile cataracts is age. Cataracts are most common in people over 40 years with increasing frequency in those above 65.There is no racial predisposition and the conditions are as common in men as they are in women. Other risk factors are trauma to the eye, operations in the eye, diabetes mellitus.
