There are no routine tests for atopic dermatitis. However, in some cases the doctor may do allergy testing to find out what irritates your skin to cause atopic dermatitis. Also when the features of the irritated skin patches are not obvious, he may ask that a small sample of skin (biopsy) be taken to the lab for analysis to rule out other conditions.
