Some asthma medications e. g. corticosteroids work by relaxing the smooth muscles in the bronchus (airway into the lungs) or reducing inflammation. In the treatment of asthma, inhaled medicines are favored over tablet or liquid ones (oral medications). Inhaled medicines act directly on the airway surface and airway muscles where the asthma problems start.
