Diagnosis of congestive heart failure is based on your complaints, your doctor's physical examination, imaging and laboratory tests. Complaints of shortness of breath on exertion, dizziness on rising, night cough and facial puffiness and leg swellings are used together with findings of an enlarged liver, distended neck veins, abnormal heart sounds and radiographic evidence of enlarged heart.
