Medical treatment is aimed at reducing sebum production, decreasing bacteria and inflammation and normalizer the keratinisation (skin cell formation) process. Your doctor will start you off on mild antibiotic creams and topical retinoids. If this fails, your doctor will prescribe oral antibiotics and photo-therapy. Treatment should be maintained for at least 4 weeks. A last resort would be isotretinoin treatment for at least 4 months.
