The adenoids are an important part of your child's developing immune system. They begin growing at birth and begin shrinking by the time children reach adolescence. They are a problem only when their size causes obstruction in breathing and drainage of the middle ear. Once treated, the condition provides no more complaints. However, the heart and lung complications and the facial changes may be permanent.
