Acute laryngitis is an inflammation of the vocal cords in the neck. It is most serious in children below 3yrs and lasts only a few days. It is mainly caused by parainfluenza and measles viruses. However, it may also be caused by a bacterial or fungal infection. Laryngitis is called chronic when it lasts over 3wks.
