Angina pectoris is characterised by pain and discomfort in the central chest and left arm, and breathlessness. It is a sign of coronary heart disease and may be stable or unstable. Stable angina is predictable and regular with symptoms that don't last long. It is made worse by exertion and relieved by rest. Unstable angina is less predictable, more frequent, has more severe symptoms and occurs at rest.
