Your doctor will make a diagnosis of hydronephrosis based on your symptoms and physical examination. S/he may insert a flexible tube into the bladder-if a lot of urine comes out, then the bladder outlet or the urethra is obstructed. Your doctor may order an ultrasound or CT scan. If an endoscope is available it can be used to examine the urinary tract. Blood and urine tests are also done.
