There are no definitive tests for acute laryngitis. The doctor makes a diagnosis based mainly on the symptoms you have. However, to find a cause, the doctor may take a throat swab to test for the causative bacteria or fungus. Very sick children may have blood tests taken to check for the oxygen saturation levels.
