There are three types of tonsillitis: acute, subacute and chronic. Acute tonsillitis is caused by viral or bacterial infections and brings about a sore throat followed by a fever. Swallowing can become difficult-you may get earache and bad breath. Some bacteria can even cause heart and kidney problems.
