If not well treated, pneumonia could lead to bacteria getting into the bloodstream(sepsis) which could be fatal. You may also get a collection of pus in the lungs called a lung abscess. The lung that is affected may also collapse. The infection may also cause destruction of lung tissue making you cough up blood.
