Treatment of endocarditis mostly involves specific antibiotic therapy depending on the results of tests. Flucloxacillin and gentamicin is used for acute endocarditis while benzyl penicillin and gentamicin are preferred for subacute. Triple therapy with vancomycin, gentamicin and oral rifampicin is used in those with penicillin allergies, prosthetic valves and resistant strains of staph aureus.
