Your doctor will prescribe medicines to raise the level of dopamine in the brain; this will help manage walking, movement and tremor problems. These medicines include levodopa, dopamine agonists, e. g pramipexole, ropinirole and apomorphine; MAO inhibitors, e. g selegiline, rasagiline; COMT inhibitors, e. g tolcapone, entacapone; anticholinergics, e. g benztropine, trihexyphenidyl; glutamate blocking drugs. At first, Parkinson's treatment can be very effective. However, after a while, the drugs' effect often becomes weaker, though symptoms can usually still be quite well controlled.
