Your doctor may examine your upper airways to look for signs of ear, nose or throat infection or redness of the ear drums, runny nose and post nasal drip(thick phlegm in the throat). Your doctor may also feel your neck for swollen lymph nodes and listen to the lungs for decreased air entry and wheezing. A chest X-ray will be considered if there is a concern that a pneumonia or infection of lung tissue is present.
