Once cerclage is done, you will be carefully monitored for infection and contractions, which can be brought on by the procedure. After discharge, you should stay in bed to remove any pressure on the cervix and increase the chance of keeping the pregnancy until the baby can survive. The cerclage is usually taken out just before childbirth so that you can give birth vaginally. In some cases, the cerclage is left in place and the baby is delivered by cesarean section.
