Some people with a pilonidal cyst have no symptoms apart from a dimple or an opening in the skin in the tailbone area. However, if the cyst gets infected, the following signs and symptoms can develop:pain over the lower spine, redness on the skin, warmth of the skin, localized swelling over the lower spine, drainage of pus from an opening in the skin over the lower spine, fever(uncommon).Less usually, pilonidal cysts can develop in other areas of the body, eg the hands.
