If your doctor suspects appendicitis, you will need to go to hospital as soon as possible. There, doctors will review you and your tests; if it seems that you have appendicitis, you will need an operation (an appendicectomy). It's done under general anaesthesia - you will be asleep during the operation. Nowadays this is usually done by keyhole surgery. You can usually go home after a few days and recover there. If you have a more traditional operation, a larger cut is made in your lower abdomen. This may need a longer recovery period in hospital. Sometimes you may be put on a course of antibiotics and observed.
