The most common name for dermatophytosis of the foot(tinea pedis) is athlete's foot-a fungal infection of the skin of the foot, usually between the toes, caused by parasitic fungi. Athlete's foot is extremely common and has wounds bordered by narrow zones of peeling skin. Long standing infections tend to spread over the sole and surface of foot.
